Ask someone what Kentucky is known for and you'll usually get one of two answers: bourbon or horses. Then there are the locals, who might care about both, neither, or just the state they grew up in.
Here's how to match a gift from our Kentucky gifts collection to the person.
One note first
These pieces aren't made in Kentucky. We keep plain blanks in stock in our workshop in Hilton Head, South Carolina, and engrave the Kentucky design after you order. We also don't make anything tied to a specific distillery or racetrack.
For bourbon people
The Bluegrass State design
Our Bluegrass State design pairs the state outline with a galloping horse and a bourbon barrel, plus "The Bluegrass State" and EST. 1792. For someone who keeps a bottle or two on the shelf, the barrel is the detail that lands.
The Bluegrass State slate coaster set comes as a single coaster or a set of 4, 6 or 8, in natural slate, 4 inches across and a quarter inch thick, round or square. The edges are hand chiseled, so each coaster has its own profile, and four foam pads on the back protect the bar top.
A board for the bar
The Louisville skyline cutting board is solid bamboo, 17 by 5.25 inches, cut in the shape of a wine bottle, with downtown Louisville on it. It works as a cheese board or a tray for a tasting flight.
For horse people
Lexington
Our Lexington skyline shows a racing thoroughbred and horse barns. The Lexington skyline wall sign is 10 by 10 inch leatherette with a sawtooth hanger, in blue or brown. The same skyline comes on a bamboo cutting board and a slate ornament.
The galloping horse
The Bluegrass State design has a horse too. The Bluegrass State wall sign is the same 10 by 10 inch leatherette sign, and the 32 oz water bottle carries it in black or white, with a flip top and a built-in straw. Hand wash only.
For locals
Someone who lives in Kentucky may want something plainer. The Kentucky slate coaster set comes in our 16 Kentucky state designs. A few good picks:
- Classic Outline, just the state shape
- Est. 1792, the year Kentucky joined the Union
- Home Sweet Home, with the state shape as the O in HOME
Every coaster in a set carries the same design, so if you want a mix, order a second set in another design. There's also a lighter cork version.
Timing
Everything is engraved after you order and ships within 1 to 5 business days. Coasters ship in a white gift box, and boards and wall art in a plain box, so plan on wrapping a board or sign meant as a gift.
