A first Christmas in Vermont tends to be memorable: real snow, a real tree, and a house that's still new. An ornament is a small way to mark the year you moved to the Green Mountains, and it comes back out every December after.
Here's how to pick a Vermont ornament from our Vermont gifts collection.
The Green Mountain State design
Our Green Mountain State design pairs the state outline with a covered bridge and sugar maple leaves, plus "The Green Mountain State" and EST. 1791.
It comes in three ornaments:

Pick the material
Slate
Dark natural stone with the design engraved in light, in a 3 or 4 inch round, with a pre-drilled hole and a hanging string. The 4 inch reads from across the room and can hang on a door or a window all winter.
Wood
Light natural wood, 3.5 inches across and about a tenth of an inch thick, with the design engraved dark into the grain. A twine hanger comes already tied on. It suits a farmhouse tree.
Leatherette
A thin 3 3/4 inch disc in black, blue or brown. It's shatterproof, so it's the one to hang low if kids or pets are around, and the easiest to mail.
For a first house
Home Sweet Home, with the state shape standing in for the O in HOME, says it outright. It comes on the Vermont slate Christmas ornament, the Vermont wood Christmas ornament and the Vermont leatherette Christmas ornament. Those also come in our other state designs, like Est. 1791 and VT Initials.
For family back where you came from
Send one back the other way. The Merry Christmas From Vermont leatherette ornament arches the words over the state shape, with the state name in script and a laurel wreath underneath. It's light and easy to mail. It also comes in slate and wood.
Start a tradition
A first Christmas is a good time to start adding one ornament a year. The maple leaves the first year, Home Sweet Home the next, and the tree starts to tell the story of the house.
Order timing
Ornaments are made to order. Each one is engraved after you buy it and ships within 1 to 3 business days in a protective sleeve. Add carrier transit time, and order early in the season if it needs to arrive by a certain date.
