A cutting board suits a first apartment in the city as well as a wedding. Here are our Illinois cutting boards, the Chicago version, and which designs work for a couple.
They're in our Illinois gifts collection.
What the board is
Each board is solid bamboo, 17 by 5.25 inches, cut in the shape of a wine bottle. That long, narrow shape makes it a cheese board, a charcuterie plank or a bar tray. The design is laser engraved into the surface, so there's no ink or paint to wear off. One face carries the design and the other is a working surface.
For a city kitchen
The Chicago board carries the city skyline. Our Chicago skyline shows the downtown towers and a Ferris wheel on the pier along the Lake Michigan shore.
For a wedding
The Illinois wine bottle cutting board comes in our 16 Illinois designs. For a couple, three fit best:
- HOME Outline, HOME with the state outline as the O
- Home Sweet Home, with the state shape as the O in HOME
- Home Script & Heart, the state outline with home in script and a heart
We don't add names or dates, and the board isn't on any registry service. If the couple has a registry elsewhere, this works as the off-registry gift that still gets used.
Care
Hand wash and towel dry. No dishwasher, and don't leave it soaking. A little food safe mineral oil every so often keeps the bamboo from drying out.
Pair it with coasters
Illinois is known as the Prairie State. Our Prairie State design pairs the state outline with the Chicago skyline and a bison, plus "The Prairie State" and EST. 1818, the year Illinois became a state. The Prairie State slate coaster set comes as a single coaster or a set of 4, 6 or 8, in natural slate, 4 inches across and a quarter inch thick, with hand chiseled edges and foam pads on the back.
Timing
These aren't made in Illinois. We keep plain blanks in stock in our workshop in Hilton Head, South Carolina, and engrave each piece after you order. Boards ship within 1 to 3 business days in a plain box, so plan on wrapping it before the party.
