Sammy the Sand Dollar Children's Book

Sammy is a sand dollar who goes exploring with his friends Stu the starfish and Lily the dolphin, until their adventure takes them too close to shore and a person picks Sammy up out of the water. Stu and Lily cannot leave the ocean to help him. A child on the beach can.

This was Nina's first book. She wrote it because she kept watching people take live sand dollars home as decorations without realising the animal was still alive.

What kids learn

That a sand dollar on the beach is very likely still alive, and that putting one back in the water is the difference between a souvenir and a dead animal.
