In a Louisiana kitchen, a board earns its keep. We make two Louisiana cutting boards: one with the state in 16 designs, and one with the New Orleans skyline. Here's what they are and how to look after them.
Both are in our Louisiana gifts collection.
What the board is
Each board is solid bamboo, 17 by 5.25 inches, cut in the shape of a wine bottle. That long, narrow shape makes it a cheese board, a charcuterie plank or a bar tray. The design is laser engraved into the surface, so there's no ink or paint to wear off, and the engraving shifts between browns and blacks, so no two boards match exactly.
The state board
The Louisiana wine bottle cutting board comes in our 16 Louisiana designs. A few that suit a kitchen:
- Est. 1812, the state outline with the statehood year
- Home Script & Heart, the state outline with home in script and a heart
- Floral Damask, the state shape in ornate floral scrollwork

The New Orleans board
The New Orleans board carries the city skyline, with the cathedral spires, a domed stadium and the bridge over the Mississippi, and the city name beneath it.

Care
Hand wash and towel dry. No dishwasher, and don't leave it soaking. A little food safe mineral oil every so often keeps the bamboo from drying out.
Pair it with coasters
The Pelican State slate coaster set has a fleur de lis, a jazz trumpet and cypress trees on natural slate coasters, sold single or in sets of 4, 6 or 8, 4 inches across and a quarter inch thick. Slate soaks up condensation instead of pushing it onto the table.
Timing
These aren't made in Louisiana. We keep plain blanks in stock in our workshop in Hilton Head, South Carolina, and engrave each piece after you order. Boards ship within 1 to 3 business days in a plain box, so plan on wrapping it if it's a gift.
