Iowa gifts usually go to one of two people: someone who lives there now, or someone who grew up there and moved away. What works for one doesn't always work for the other. Here's what we make for each.
Everything below is in our Iowa gifts collection.
The Hawkeye State design
Iowa is known as the Hawkeye State. Our Hawkeye State design pairs the state outline with an American goldfinch and a sunflower, plus "The Hawkeye State" and EST. 1846, the year Iowa became a state.
The Hawkeye State slate coaster set comes as a single coaster or a set of 4, 6 or 8, in natural slate, round or square, 4 inches across and a quarter inch thick. The edges are hand chiseled, so no two coasters are alike, and four foam pads on the back protect the table. There's a lighter cork version, 3/16 inch thick, that grips without pads and takes a hot mug.
For locals
For someone who lives in Iowa, something for the house tends to beat a souvenir. The Iowa wine bottle cutting board is solid bamboo, 17 by 5.25 inches, cut in the shape of a wine bottle, so it works as a cheese board, a charcuterie plank or a bar tray. It comes in our 16 Iowa designs, from a plain outline to IA initials.
The Hawkeye State wall sign is 10 by 10 inch leatherette in blue or brown, with a sawtooth hanger, ready to hang.
For people who grew up there
We don't make school or team designs. For someone who grew up in Iowa and moved away, the HOME designs say it plainly:
- HOME Outline, HOME with the state outline as the O
- Home Sweet Home, with the state shape as the O in HOME
Both come on the Iowa slate coaster set, the Iowa cork coaster set, the cutting board and our Iowa ornaments.
For the car or the office
The Hawkeye State water bottle is 32 oz insulated stainless steel in black or white, with a flip top and a built-in straw. The design is engraved through the powder coat, so it won't peel. Hand wash only.
Timing
These aren't made in Iowa. We keep plain blanks in stock in our workshop in Hilton Head, South Carolina, and engrave each piece after you order. Orders ship within 1 to 5 business days, coasters in a white gift box and boards and wall art in a plain box, so plan on wrapping a board or sign meant as a gift.
