Connecticut Coasters for the Bar Cart and the Boat

Connecticut square slate coaster engraved with the Classic Outline design

Connecticut coasters come in two materials, and the right one depends on where they'll live. Slate is for the bar cart. Cork is for the boat, the camper or the desk. Here's how they differ.

They're all in our Connecticut gifts collection.

Slate, for the bar cart

The Connecticut slate coaster set is four natural slate coasters, round or square, 4 inches across and a quarter inch thick. The edges are hand chiseled, so no two coasters are alike, and four foam pads on the back protect the table. Slate has weight to it and looks right next to a decanter and a row of glasses.

Cork, for the boat

The Connecticut cork coaster set is four natural cork coasters, 3/16 inch thick and 4 inches across. Cork is much lighter than slate, grips the table without pads, and takes a hot mug as well as a cold can. That makes it the better set for a boat, a camper or anywhere slate would be too heavy to bring along.

The designs

Both sets come in our 16 Connecticut designs, from a classic outline to CT initials, a script signature, Est. 1788 and HOME with the state as the O. Each set of four carries one design, so if you want a mix, order a second set in another design. Hearts and stars inside the state shape are decorative and don't mark a town.

The whale version

Connecticut is known as the Constitution State. Our Constitution State design pairs the state outline with a sperm whale, the state animal, plus "The Constitution State" and EST. 1788, the year Connecticut joined the Union. It comes on its own slate set and cork set, and suits a boat better than anything else we make for Connecticut.

Timing

These aren't made in Connecticut. We keep plain blanks in stock in our workshop in Hilton Head, South Carolina, and engrave each piece after you order. Coaster sets ship within 1 to 3 business days in a protective sleeve, so plan on wrapping them if they're a gift.
