Ohio Coasters for Basements, Bars, and Game Days

Ohio round slate coaster engraved with the state outline, a covered bridge and a cardinal, The Buckeye State

In a lot of Ohio houses, the basement is where people actually hang out: a bar in the corner, a TV on the wall, and drinks on every flat surface on game day. That's a lot of glasses, and a lot of rings on the furniture.

Here's what our Ohio coasters are and which set fits where, whether you're setting up a basement in Ohio or bringing a piece of Ohio to a new place. They're all in our Ohio gifts collection.

Slate or cork

Ohio coasters come single or in sets of 4, 6 or 8, round or square, 4 inches across.

Slate

Natural slate, a quarter inch thick. The edges are hand chiseled, so no two coasters in a set are exactly alike, and four foam pads on the back protect the table. Slate soaks up condensation instead of pushing it onto the table, and its weight keeps a coaster from sliding when you lift your glass. It's the pick for a bar top.

Cork

Cork is 3/16 inch thick and much lighter. It grips the table without pads, won't clatter or chip, and takes a hot coffee mug as well as a cold glass. It's the easier one to spread around a room on game day.

For the basement bar

The Buckeye State slate coaster set has the state outline with a covered bridge and a cardinal, plus "The Buckeye State" and EST. 1803. It's the Ohio design that reads from across the bar.

For game days

A full basement means more glasses than one set covers. The Buckeye State cork coaster set has the same design on lighter cork. Order two or three sets and put them on the side tables, the bar and the arm of the couch.

We don't make team designs, so these work for any game and any team.

For someone who moved away

For an Ohioan setting up a place in another state, the state designs say where they're from. The Ohio slate coaster set and the Ohio cork coaster set come in our 16 Ohio state designs. A few that work:

  • Home Sweet Home, with the state shape as the O in HOME
  • Ohio Script, the state name in script
  • Est. 1803, the year Ohio joined the Union
  • OH Initials, for a plain look

Every coaster in a set carries the same design, so if you want a mix, order a second set in another design.

Round out the basement

A Cleveland or Cincinnati skyline wall sign fills a spot over the bar. They're 10 by 10 inch leatherette with a sawtooth hanger, in blue or brown.

Care

Rinse slate with warm water and let it air dry. The design is engraved into the slate and burned into the cork, so it won't fade or wash off.

Timing

These aren't made in Ohio. We keep plain blanks in stock in our workshop in Hilton Head, South Carolina, and engrave each set after you order. Sets ship within 1 to 3 business days in a protective sleeve. If you need them for a certain game day, add carrier transit time and order early.
