The year someone moves to Illinois, or moves away, is worth marking with something that goes back on the tree every December. Here are our Illinois Christmas ornaments, and which suit which direction.
They're all in our Illinois gifts collection.
Three materials
- Slate is dark natural stone, a 3 or 4 inch round, with the design engraved pale into the stone and a hanging string included.
- Wood is light, 3.5 inches across and about a tenth of an inch thick, with a twine hanger already tied.
- Leatherette is a thin, shatterproof disc, 3 3/4 inches, in black, blue or brown, with a cord attached. It's the one to hang low if there are kids or cats near the tree.
The year you arrived
For a first Christmas in a new Illinois home, two of our 16 Illinois state designs fit best:
- HOME Outline, HOME with the state outline as the O
- Home Sweet Home, with the state shape as the O in HOME
Both come on the Illinois slate ornament, the Illinois wood ornament and the Illinois leatherette ornament. If the new home is in Chicago, the Chicago slate ornament and Chicago wood ornament mark the city. Our Chicago skyline shows the downtown towers and a Ferris wheel on the pier along the Lake Michigan shore.

The year you left
For someone who moved away, the Prairie State ornament carries the state with them. Illinois is known as the Prairie State. Our Prairie State design pairs the state outline with the Chicago skyline and a bison, plus "The Prairie State" and EST. 1818, the year Illinois became a state. It comes on a leatherette ornament, a slate ornament and a wood ornament.

Merry Christmas From Illinois
The Merry Christmas From Illinois leatherette ornament arches the words over the state shape, with the state name in script and a laurel wreath underneath. It also comes in slate and wood. Either direction, it's a good one to send to the people on the other end of the move.

Timing
These aren't made in Illinois. We keep plain blanks in stock in our workshop in Hilton Head, South Carolina, and engrave each piece after you order. Ornaments ship within 1 to 3 business days in a protective sleeve. If you're ordering in December, add carrier transit time.
